Zhang Lan (aka: Mr. Lan) is a multi-disciplinary artist, member of the EDGE Creative Collective, and widely recognized in China as a pioneer in tattoo and street art design. Originally from the inland province of Hunan, Zhang Lan first made his mark as a graffiti artist whose fresh and often breathtakingly large pieces helped propel China’s burgeoning street art scene forward. As his reputation spread and he moved to Shanghai, Zhang Lan founded PEN CREW, a street art collective well known for its innovative style and championship trophies at China’s major graffiti competitions.

As a multi-disciplinary artist, Zhang Lan has applied his skills to numerous mediums including clothing, vinyl toys, stickers, and interior environment design. However, his real calling came when he began training as a tattoo artist, a medium that allows him to blend traditional Chinese with modern aesthetics in a unique style. As a full-time tattoo artist, Zhang Lan now runs his own tattoo parlor in the heart of Shanghai’s French Concession.

Zhang Lan frequently collaborates with leading brands such as Nike and Pepsi for product design, installations, and live art events. Zhang Lan’s work has been featured in leading Chinese cultural publications including the Shanghai Daily, Milk, Yoho, Xin Zhou Kan, M-Style, and Qingnian Shijue, as well as internationally by Graff Bombz, CNNGo, and HS Magazine.
