popil paints up japanese fashion designer mayumi sato’s shop

Japanese fashion designer Mayumi Sato commissioned Shanghai-based creative extraordinaire Popil to paint the pull-down gate on her Anfu Rd. shopfront. The piece features Popil’s classic “young girl” a staple element in pretty much every graffiti piece Popil does, accompanied by either a cat or rabbit.

Most fans of anything “Chinese retro” are familiar with Xixi and his Nengmao brand, which embody the nostalgic spirit of 80s Chinese culture. Started in 2007, the origins of the “Nengmao” name come from a innocent misspelling from Xixi’s youth.
