Check out this building in Qingdao near the Tai Dong pedestrian street / shopping area. We love this.

You may have noticed that dozens of buildings in Taidong are complete murals! The Shibei District government in Qingdao has done a lot to make the place appealing for people to live and play, even beyond “我爱市北,我爱我家” on every bridge and overpass. The famed beer street and Tsingtao factory are just down the way from the pedestrian shopping district, which is where these painted buildings are.
I’ve heard that this particular project had the twin aims of adding color to this part of the city (which lacks the coastal charm of Shinan District) and to earn a Guinness World Record for something like largest mural – if you take all the buildings together, it’s… a lot (though I can’t find anything on the Guinness site). They commissioned artists to develop designs, and now it’s just one of those things you stumble across in charming cities like this one.
@ Eric, thanks for your response. It’s great to see the local Qingdao government investing in creative culture on such a large public scale. Very cool.
If you happen to have any photos of the other buildings, please send them in. We’d love to post them. EDGE@Neocha.com
Thanks again!
