satirical graffiti pieces from taiwan-based artist CANDY BIRD
Taiwan-based artist Candy Bird is a graduate from the School of Fine Arts at Huafan University. After being discharged from military service, he worked as a graphic designer working 12 hours a day, making less than 23,000 NT$ a year. Then after 6 months, he was fired without severence pay. Without an alternative, he worked at a noodle restaurant to make ends meet. At night he would go out to do graffiti, often pondering “Why is the art circle in Taiwan so overly elitist?” Later, he began to travel the world, creating original graffiti pieces wherever he went. His satirical style using the people’s livelihood as subjects received high acclaim from both the media and the masses.
