Mike got his start in the world of media at 16 as a DJ and promoter at 90.7 fm KZUU, a college radio station in his hometown of Pullman, Washington. Continued DJing at KZUU until he moved to Boston to attend Emerson College where he studied visual / media Arts, all while continuing a love for music / radio as a DJ / programmer at the nation’s #1 student radio station 88.9 FM WERS.
Upon graduating from Emerson, Mike had one last stint in radio mingling with rappers, hookers, and porn stars as an intern for the All-Out Show on Sirius Satellite Radio’s SHADE 45 in NYC, where he lived with childhood friend and internationally known graffiti writer Katsu, who broadening his love and understanding of underground graf / street art culture.
Shortly after moving to Chongqing in the fall of ‘07, Mike became fed-up with the monogamy of the city’s club / nightlife scene and set out to find an alternative. After a few months of searching, he was pleasantly surprised to find a lively underground community of artists and musicians, leading him to co-found CQSCENE, as he felt obligated to spare anyone else interested in Chinese youth / artistic culture the arduous search that he had to go through. At about the same time he also co-founded Fresh World Promotions, an event planning, marketing / promotions, and consulting firm, dedicated to promoting music and the arts in Chongqing and throughout China.
When Mike is not immersed in the Chinese creative community, you can find him Dj’ing, playing soccer or rugby, or watching a film.
