Converse China recently started published a magazine titled Converse Zine. The VOL 1, Music Holiday 2009, heavy features Chinese indie rock, with profile pieces on well-known Chinese bands like Queen Sea Big Shark, Hedgehog, The Gar, New Pants, Carsick Cars, and PK-14. Following the brand’s “Love Noise” tour and it’s “It’s Your Turn” campaign, Converse has once again shown its long-term commitment to engage with the Chinese creative community and local indie culture, particularly the music scene. We of course whole heartily support this as it gives local indie rock an opportunity for promotion and recognition in more “mainstream” consumer channels – it’s just a very smart way for Converse to differentiate itself (while staying consistent with the brand’s core values) in a saturated athletic shoe market in China.
