Most fans of anything “Chinese retro” are familiar with Xixi and his Nengmao brand, which embody the nostalgic spirit of 80s Chinese culture. Started in 2007, the origins of the “Nengmao” name come from a innocent misspelling from Xixi’s youth.

Neng Mao was a tiny misspelling of the word “panda” in pinyin Chinese, that I made in elementary school. For some reason, this mistake always reminds me how silly but sweet childhood is. Now I’ve made this little misspelled creature come to life and hope to remind everyone of the happiness of our childhood.”

Xixi hopes he to capture the romance and energy of 1980s China – if you visit the new store, you  can’t help but be swept up in the retro spirit of that era.

The new Nengmao store is located down an unmarked lane in Shanghai’s French Concession. The address is: Shanxi Nan Rd., Lane 38, No. 96, close to the Xinle Rd. intersection (陕西南路39弄96号底楼).
