  • “the dangsters” organize a raucous (and the first!) hip-hop flash mob dance-off in downtown kunming

Our favorite dance crew, Kunming-based “The Dangsters,” organized the first ever hip-hop flash mob in Kunming on May 1st in broad daylight in front of the newly-opened Wangfujin mall. Because of the sensitivities around flash-mobs / unannounced or unapproved mass public gatherings in China, and the fact that this had never been done before in Kunming, a crucial question was on The Dangsters’ minds while planning: will we be able to finish the 5+ minute routine?

    Unlikely, right? Think again.

In the end, the 50+ dancers involved gathered such a crowd that it was nearly impossible for anyone to intervene. “Security agents” made a few valiant attempts, but were overwhelmed by the crowd and resigned to nervously watching and waiting from the sidelines until the end of the performance.

Check out the video below (also available on Youku) – a whole lot of awesome here. Bravo to The Dangsters!
