tang ting, documenting modern china’s young generation
We’ve known Tang Ting from when he was just another face on the Shanghai indie scene taking photos at the live shows. He has since grown into a famous photographer, particularly well-known for his rock music snaps.
Tang Ting is one of only a few young Chinese photographers who still uses good ol’ fashion film. His snaps always capture a unique calmness and exquisiteness unique among other young shooters, perhaps a side-effect of his analog-ness.
Although his photography spans several genres (portrait, fashion, and day-to-day life, etc.) the general theme of all his work is Chinese youth culture. In many ways though, we don’t think of him as a photographer at all, but rather a post-80 cultural representative documenting modern China’s young generation.
We’ve shared some of his work below. Enjoy.
