“SKY BLUE,” a touching experimental animation from beijing-based animator MA YINGJIE
After graduating from Inner Mongolia Normal University, Ma Yingjie studied animation at the Beijing Film Academy School of Education. This 15-minute experimental animated short tells the moving story of a little girl who lost her father in the war. After his death, his comrades were so moved that they constructed a series of “lies” to hide the situation from the little girl.
This film has a gentle rhythm and, for a short film of fifteen minutes, does not seem to rush through its intricate storyline. It is especially worth checking out the part where the little girl’s father goes behind enemy lines; it is fast-paced, captivating, and full of emotion.
